Greater Western Sydney star Jesse Hogan has sparked a nine-point victory over his former AFL club Fremantle to strengthen his side's grip on a top-two finish.
The Giants were never comfortable, but with Hogan slotting six goals they held off the desperate Dockers to win 15.11 (101) to 14.8 (92) at Engie Stadium on Saturday.
It is their seven straight win and they could rise to second on the ladder, behind cross-city rivals Sydney, should results this round fall their way.
"We've had a great dress rehearsal into finals," GWS coach Adam Kingsley said.
"The teams that we've played over the last five weeks, not just the last two, have all been finals-type teams.
"We've basically already played five finals so I'm really comfortable with that.
"But again, getting there is one thing. The season starts again now and we've got to make sure that we're playing our best."
The Dockers, though, are at risk of tumbling out of the top eight after suffering their third consecutive loss.
"Everyone's flat, but they know we're not far away," Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir.
"The prospects of (our finals) being over? Maybe, but it's not.
"We'll front up like we did today. You can't sit back and look at our footy the last three weeks and say we haven't had a crack.
"The message to players after the game was that I was proud of their efforts."
Hogan now leads the goalkicking table with 67 majors and enjoys a 10-goal buffer over reigning Coleman Medallist and injured Carlton spearhead Charlie Curnow.
Brent Daniels (three goals, 29 disposals) was also outstanding for the Giants, while Tom Green was a ball magnet in the engine room with 40 touches and 13 clearances.
But defender Lachie Ash could be in trouble after laying a heavy tackle on Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young in the second term.
Hogan slotted two unanswered goals to open the match before Aaron Cadman and Daniels hit the scoreboard, but a three-goal burst by the visitors kept the buffer to eight points.
Unable to match the red-hot pace of the Giants' signature "orange tsunami'', Fremantle opted to slow down the tempo and constrict their opponents' ball movement.
The strategy proved fruitful, with the Dockers jumping ahead by nine points after kicking five goals to two before the main break.
But GWS produced third-quarter muscle to wrangle back an eight-point lead courtesy of goals from Hogan, Darcy Jones, Daniels and Kieren Briggs.
The arm-wrestle continued well into the final term, with the Dockers kicking four goals to halve the deficit, but Hogan's sixth of the match settled the matter.
Andrew Brayshaw (41 disposals) was a stand-out for Fremantle, while Caleb Serong kicked two goals despite close attention from tagger Toby Bedford.
Michael Frederick booted three majors, while 24-year-old debutant Liam Reidy held his own in a ruck battle against Giants star Briggs.
Fremantle face a must-win match against Port Adelaide at home in the final round of the season, while GWS close their home-and-away campaign against the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat.
