HMRC issues Child Benefit warning to parents and carers ahead of deadline next week

There is just over a week left for parents and guardians claiming Child Benefit payments to make sure that their details are correct. The upcoming deadline on Wednesday, May 31, affects all families on the benefit, including those with a child aged 16 who had stayed in education or training, but has since left.

Once a child reaches their 16th birthday, Child Benefit payments will continue until the first of four specific dates throughout the year. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) advises parents and cares to update their details in plenty of time, and warn "If you fail to update your details in time, you may still be able to claim Child Benefit, but your payments might be late.”

This means those due payments on Monday or Tuesday next week could be recieving their last ones. Additionally those due to receive payments on Monday, May 29, will receive it on Friday, May 26 instead as the Monday is a bank holiday reports The Daily Record.
