The Treasury had a £59.2 billion shortfall from unpaid taxes last year, with small businesses accounting for nearly two thirds of the UK’s tax gap, the latest figures by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) show.

HMRC collected £865.2 billion in total over the 2024 to 2025 tax year, representing 93.6% of all tax due.
