Although we’re looking forward to a BRAT summer, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has warned Aussies to brace for scorching temperatures alongside storm outbreaks and rain.
According to the BoM’s chance of above median maximum temperature report for November to January, it has predicted that Australia — and I mean all of us — will see an 80 per cent chance of above-average maximum temperatures.
This means we’ll be fronting warmer days and nights towards the end of the year, with Australia’s south and east facing above-average rainfall.
Per The Australian, the predicted scorching forecast — which indicates a more sticky summer rather than the BRAT summer we’re all yearning for — comes as a result of ongoing high ocean temperatures surrounding the country.
The rising sea temperatures could also boost “atmospheric moisture levels” which could lead to more storm outbreaks and more rain.
Speaking to the publication, BoM senior meteorologist Angus Hines said the predicted forecast of above-average temperatures is no longer “super uncommon”.
“The climate warm in recent decades, it’s very common that we do see temperatures shake out,” Hines told the publication.
“Pretty much the entirety of the last decade we’ve had summers that sit somewhere above average.”
Hines also added that Aussies in the north and east could also brace for humid conditions, stating that “cooler stints of weather compared to summers gone by might be a bit more briefer or more mild.”
The predicted forecast follows the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council’s annual conference, where states were told to “remain vigilant” this upcoming Spring season.
With the way everything sounds, it looks like Aussies will be looking forward to a sticky hot summer packed with moisture and humidity.
