A historic Grade II listed building that allows you to step back in time is now on the market. The Sardis Independent Chapel in Pontypridd was built in 1834 and was the last Welsh-speaking chapel in the area. It is now available for those who have architectural interests and wish to purchase a mid-nineteenth century property for £200,000.
The chapel was originally built in 1834 but rebuilt in 1852, before being modified in 1885. At one point in time, the chapel's pipe organ attracted people from across Rhondda Cynon Taf to celebrate their weddings and became a community hub.
The present chapel's exterior has a simple classical style, featuring mid-nineteenth century rubble stone and a beautifully preserved early twentieth century interior. Inside the main chapel are pews, an ornate ceiling, a side office, ladies and gentlemen's toilets, a vestry with separate access, two store rooms and a kitchen.

As you walk through the large wooden double doors, you are greeted by parquet-tiled flooring and staircases leading to galleried seating. There are multiple windows bringing light into the chapel, with skylights in the side lobby. Outside the chapel is a large plot with paved walkways and spacious garden area to the side of the building.
Sardis Chapel is on the market with Hoskins Johnson, which describes the building as a townhouse with "excellent potential." The property could be used for a variety of subjects, as long as the buyers obtain the necessary permissions and any change of use paperwork required.
The detached chapel is situated near the train station connected to the Core Valleys Line that will soon host the new South Wales Metro, making it easier to travel to many major cities. It is also directly opposite Pontypridd's vibrant town centre, which is home to many independent businesses as well as popular food and drink chains.
