The Gogglebox families had one big question after seeing the new 50p coins featuring King Charles. The stars on the sofas admitted being puzzled by the new royal era being known as the Carolean age.
It came as Friday's episode of the Channel 4 show saw them watching a clip from BBC News taking viewers behind the scenes at the Royal Mint. It noted that the 50 pence pieces were "the first of the Carolean coins".
Anna in South London explained to husband Ronnie: "We've gone from the Elizabethan era to the Carolean era." "Yeah but who's Carolean?" he questioned. "I don't know!" she told him.
In Blackpool, Pete Sandiford said: "I still don't get why they've called it Carolean, because his name's not Carol". "Or Ian," sister Sophie noted.
Viewers on Twitter loved the moment. @joboraineyslah said: "His name's not Carol, it's not Ian either. Classic Gogglebox and Pete generally annoys me."
@Sasha_Rose said: "Carolean era! Sounds a bit like Carol and Ian, who lives down the road". And @MChristiana16 said: "Shouldn't it be the Charliean era or something similar?"
The real reason for the name is of course from Latin. As @suzysasha explained on Twitter: "Carolus is Latin for Charles. That's why it's called the Carolean era."
