Hip-drop tackle added to rugby's global rule book

World Rugby has reacted to the pleas for action and will ban the hip-drop tackle, the action that caused NRL star Nathan Cleary's gruesome leg injury.

The hip-drop, until now conspicuously absent from the code's rule book, will be defined as dangerous play after a series of serious injuries prompted calls from within the Australian rugby union community to ban it.
