Uttar Pradesh's Sania Mirza is all set to become the country's first Muslim woman fighter pilot. A Hindi medium school student, Sania, credits hardwork and determination for her success.
Breaking the wrong notion around Hindi medium education, Sania says Hindi medium students too can achieve success if they are determined. This draws our attention to a social belief that English medium education is far more scope-generating than regional medium education. Just like Sania, several students educated in Hindi and other regional languages have broken this belief system.
A resident of Jasovar village under the Mirzapur Dehat Kotwali police station area Sania has cleared the NDA exam. Sania will be joining NDA Khadakwasla in Pune on December 27 and will be country's first Muslim woman to have achieved that.
"Sania Mirza considers the country's first fighter pilot Avni Chaturvedi as her role model. From the beginning, she wanted to be like her. Sania is the second girl in the country who has been selected as a fighter pilot," Shahid Ali, her proud father, told the media.
Prior to this, Sania had achieved a bigger milestone in her academic career. She was the district topper in the 12th UP Board.
"Our daughter has made us and the entire village proud. She fulfills the dream of becoming the first fighter pilot. She inspired every girl in the village to follow their dreams," her mother Tabassum Mirza says.
The NDA exam was held to fill 400 seats, 19 of which were reserved for women candidates. Of these 19 seats, 2 seats were reserved for fighter pilots.
Women have been making a new record in the defence sector recently, few of the achievements are:
Flight Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi from Madhya Pradesh is India's first woman combat pilot along with Mohana Singh Jitarwal, and Bhawana Kanth.
Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, commissioned in 2017, is the first Rafale woman fighter pilot.
Captain Abhilasha Barak is the first woman combat aviator in the Indian Army.
