Himachal Pradesh CM lays foundation of new Dhalli tunnel in Shimla

SHIMLA: Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of Rs 49 crore double- lane Dhalli Tunnel in Shimla.

Thakur added that the state government is committed to maintain the old glory of Shimla town, and Shimla Smart City Project is being executed in town vigorously by initiating various works to benefit the people.

The existing tunnel at Dhalli, connecting the town with upper Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kinnuar districts as well, is over 175 years old and had outlived its design life and also become a bottleneck in smooth flow of traffic.

The chief minister claimed that the old tunnel was constructed way back in 1852 and the new 147 metre new double lane tunnel would provide much needed relief to the commuters.
