SHIMLA: In a major fire incident, 9 houses were burnt completely while 5 others were burnt partially at Daroti village of Tikker tehsil in Rohru sub division of Shimla district on Saturday late night.
The incident has left 12 families homeless.
In all, around 74 people of 21 families have been affected in the incident. Education Minister Rohit Thakur along with Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi visited the spot and assessed the situation.
According to sources, the fire broke out in a house in Daroti village around midnight and as all the houses were made of wood so the fire spread rapidly and within no time, more than a dozen houses caught fire. In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit.
The incident had caused panic in the village and amidst the screams of the people, the villagers gathered for help and started extinguishing the fire on their own.
The fire personnel were also informed. After a lot of hard work, the villagers along with the fire personnel succeeded in extinguishing the fire. The police and administration team had also reached the spot.
Rohit Thakur expressed regret over the tragic incident and said that the state government stands with the affected families in this hour of crisis. He directed the district administration to provide all possible help to the affected families.
Giving information, the Deputy Commissioner said that in this incident 12 families have become homeless and property of 9 families has been damaged. He said that living arrangements for these displaced families have been made in the village itself. Additionally, all the affected 21 families have been given Rs 10,000 per family as immediate relief.
Aditya Negi said that 12 displaced families have been provided bed, blanket, utensils, kitchen set, tarpaulin and dry ration etc by the administration. Apart from this, hygiene kits, blankets, tarpaulins etc have been provided to all 21 families by the District Red Cross Society. The officials of the Revenue Department are preparing the report after assessing the loss.
