A hillwalker was rescued off a cloud covered mountain in the Cairngorms last night after falling ill, sparking a gruelling six-and-a-half-hour operation.
The man in his 20s was among a party of four when he became unwell near the summit of 4252ft high Braeriach.
The alarm was raised at 9pm, but because of the low cloud level, the Inverness-based coastguard search and rescue helicopter was unable to reach the group.
As a result, some of the 17 members of Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team called out were airlifted to just below the cloud base.
It was there that they found the party in tents.
A video taken at the scene shows three Mountain Rescue team members piling out of a helicopter carrying flashlights and other equipment as they ready themselves to get the walker to safety.
Cairngorm MRT leader, Ian Cornfoot, said the rescuers had faced a long stretcher carry.
After treatment, however, the casualty was able to walk off with help from the team.
The crew arrived back at base at 3.30am today.
