With a parochial crowd roaring him on, Kiwi Daniel Hillier has stormed home in the third round to claim the whip hand in what is shaping as a classic trans-Tasman stoush to decide the $A1.69 million New Zealand Open.

The DP World Tour star went five under through his last five holes on Saturday, capped with a spectacular birdie-two after hitting his tee shot to four feet on the 18th at Millbrook Resort.
