Hilary Duff has said she is expecting backlash from people after she revealed she has pierced her baby daughter’s ears.
Posting on Instagram to her stories, the actress showed a photo of her seven-month-old daughter Mae James Bair, adding: “Yes! I pierced her ears today. Can’t wait for the internet to call me a child abuser….again... lesss go.”
Her comments allude to the fact she was previously criticised in June 2019 after piercing the ears of her then eight-month-old daughter Banks Violet Bair.
At the time, some fans said they would be unfollowing Duff because of it and claimed she had inflicted “pain” on her child.

“Just wondering how she gave you consent to pierce her ears?” one person had commented at the time.
Duff shares the two young daughters with her singer-songwriter husband Matthew Koma. She also has one son Luca with ex-husband and Canadian ice hockey player Mike Comrie.
Reflecting on people making comments about her parenting in an interview with Yahoo earlier this year, she said she is learning to “zoom out” and not take things too personally.
She said: “At first I want to be defensive, but when I zoom out, I’m like, ‘It’s one person. That’s not how everybody feels. That doesn’t really matter. That person’s, like, a keyboard gangster who just needs to be heard or seen.’”
“I don’t comment on other people’s posts like that, so I don’t understand, but I guess it’s just a need for attention or whatever,” she added. “It’s hard not to take it personal.”
