December and January were rough months for Dublin performers as many beloved pantos were either postponed or called off due to Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland at the time.
But now with restrictions on hospitality and live entertainment lifted, a number of pantos will bring that cheer normally synonymous with Christmas time well into 2022 to delight local audiences in Dublin.
Jack and the Beanstalk is this year's chosen show for Dublin Panto.
Taking place in Grange Woodbine Club in Raheny from Tuesday, February 15 until Sunday, February 27, the show promises to be just as delightful for adults as it will be for children.
The show's director Sean Gilligan spoke to Dublin Live about what audiences can expect after the show was postponed.
He revealed: "On the 19th of December, we were rehearsing here thinking we were going to open for a full Christmas run. Then the close contact rule changed and we had to make a call. We decided to reschedule it.
"The whole idea is that when the kids and the families come in, they're walking into the banqueting hall of a castle. It's not just coming to see a show. It's an experience."
Speaking about how it feels to be back putting on shows, Sean said: "We're so blessed to be back working and for the industry to be back open. We're so excited to share this with audiences now."
With costumes from Sparkle Costume, Sean described how the show is more than visually appealing, from the themed tables and chairs to the immersive sets.
The show's cast includes Adam Doherty as Jack, Hannah Roddy as Jill, Conor Clear as Baron Michol and Andrew Reddy as Bridie McBride. There is also John Fagan as Leo the Assistant, Arabella Dolan as Goldilocks, Corinna O'Brien as Maisie the Giant's Wife and Robbie Kane as the voice of John the Giant.
Conor, who audiences might recognise from his time on Virgin Media, revealed: "I'm from the other side of the city but I love coming over here. There's a lovely sense of community. As a south-sider I've just been welcomed in.
"It's the littlest panto with the biggest heart."
