A hiker lost in Colorado ignored repeated calls from rescuers, later explaining that they had not answered because they were unfamiliar with the phone number, authorities said.
They were reported missing after they failed to return from an expedition Oct. 18 on Mount Elbert, Lake County Search and Rescue said.
Officials said that the area was searched the following day, but the hiker could not be found. The team then tried to call the hiker’s cellphone, to which the hiker did not answer.

The hiker had wandered off the trail and spent 24 hours lost on Mt. Elbert. They eventually found a way out and made it to their car. The person was unaware that a search team had been looking for them.
“The subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognize the number,” Lake County Search and Rescue stated in a Facebook post.
Many Twitter users chimed in on the story, with one humoursly saying, “This is definitely how I’m going to die.”
