Coming into Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards, Anthony Davis had been on a tear.
He had averaged 32.9 points, 15.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots a game while shooting 63.1 percent from the field in his last eight contests, and not surprisingly, the Lakers had won six of them.
But on Sunday, Davis had the best game he has had since joining L.A. in the summer of 2019.
He went into supernova mode, exploding for 55 points on 22-of-30 shooting, to go along with 17 rebounds and three blocks in the Lakers’ 130-119 victory. It came on the heels of his 44-point effort on Friday when L.A. upset the Milwaukee Bucks.
There was absolutely nothing the Wizards could do to slow him down even a little bit.
This game brought the superstar big man’s season averages to 28.6 points on 59.0 percent shooting, 12.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks a game. He is leading the NBA in rebounds per game, and he could very well be entering the MVP race.
