STRIKES at a nuclear power station have been postponed following an improved pay offer.
Unite the Union has announced the planned industrial action at Dounreay nuclear station has been suspended to allow workers to be balloted on a new pay offer.
Around 600 Unite members employed by Nuclear Restoration Services Limited, previously named Magnox Ltd, were set to strike on Wednesday, June 19 at the plant.
The union confirmed that an overtime ban and an end to working voluntary appointments which has been in place will continue during the ballot process.
The union’s membership previously rejected a pay offer in May, which amounted to a one-off £500 payment on top of a basic 4.5% increase.
Craft technicians, general operators, engineers, maintenance fitters and safety advisers are all members of the Union and were set to walk out.
Marc Jackson, Unite’s industrial officer, said: “Unite as a sign of good faith due to productive talks with NRS has suspended strike action set for June 19.
“A new pay offer will be put to the workers to vote on and it is ultimately up to them.
“It has only materialised due to the strength and resolve of our members to get a fair pay deal.”
