Troon’s new banking hub is to open this Friday, May 19.
On hand to cut the ribbon at 12.30pm will be representatives from Cash Access UK, the Post Office, MP Dr Philippa Whitford and Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown.
Troon’s Banking Hub is a shared banking space at 11 Ayr Street, KA10 6EB.
It offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday.
The Hub also offers a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues.
The Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank or building society available on each day of the week:
Monday– RBS, Tuesday– Bank of Scotland, Wednesday– Santander, Thursday– Virgin Money, Friday (plans to be announced in the coming weeks).
The need for a new banking hub grew when Troon’s last remaining bank, The Bank of Scotland branch in Templehill, closed in September 2022.
Banking Hubs are being created across the UK and are funded and supported by 10 major high street banking providers: Bank of Ireland UK, Barclays Bank UK PLC, Danske Bank, HSBC UK Bank plc, Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest Group plc, Santander UK plc, TSB Bank plc and Virgin Money.
Gareth Oakley, CEO of Cash Access UK said: “Having access to cash services is vital for millions of people around the UK, particularly in challenging financial times, so I’m delighted to announce the opening of the Banking Hub in Troon.
“Seeing the impact of the existing Hubs on local communities is a reminder of how important these services are – from the counter service to the knowledge and support of the community bankers. As our doors open, we are looking forward to becoming part of the community and supporting local people and businesses in Troon.”
Ross Borkett, Head of Banking at Post Office: “I am delighted that Troon Banking Hub has opened ahead of the busy summer period.
“We are proud to be taking a leading role in the delivery of Banking Hubs in partnership with Cash Access UK, and I want to specifically thank the Postmaster who will be running the Hub in Troon, ensuring local businesses will have somewhere convenient to deposit their cash takings to maximise the time they spend trading.
“Operating this Banking Hub, with more to come later this year, continues the expansion of our role in safeguarding a secure and sustainable future for cash through our continued partnership with the banking industry.”
