An alleged high-speed police pursuit through multiple Newcastle and Lake Macquarie suburbs on Thursday morning ended with two arrests and a gun seized.
Newcastle City police were responding to a report of a break and enter when they attempted to stop a vehicle on Park Avenue, Kotara.
The vehicle allegedly failed to stop and led officers on a high-speed chase just after 6.30am on July 2.
Police say the vehicle sped through several locations, including Hillsborough Road in Charlestown, Brunker Road in Adamstown, and Russell Road in New Lambton, coming to an end near Westfield Kotara.
It is understood police were forced to deploy road spikes to bring the vehicle to a stop.
The vehicle stopped at the intersection of Northcott and Wade streets at Kotara about 6.50am.
Tyson Polyak, 31, and Ebony Joy Skeffington, 23, were arrested and have been taken to Newcastle Police Station.
A handgun was allegedly found when the car was searched. Police said it had been taken for further examination.
A police vehicle was damaged during the incident but no officers have been injured.
Officers also allegedly seized goods suspected of being stolen, along with a hammer, bolt cutters, screwdrivers, and pliers.
The 31-year-old man was charged with 24 offences, including five counts of use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, four counts of face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence and two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company.
The 23-year-old woman was charged with five offences including larceny, special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-weapon.
Both were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Friday, July 3, where they were both refused release. They will remain in custody agead of their next court date in September.
