- A high-profile unnamed individual has launched legal action at the High Court against Independent Television News and Guardian News and Media to block the publication of serious misconduct allegations.
- The proposed reports by ITN and The Guardian involve allegations of the man's conduct towards multiple individuals over several years in both personal and professional settings, including an alleged sexual offence, which he denies.
- Represented by Sara Mansoori KC, the claimant is seeking an injunction on the grounds that publication would likely lead to him attempting suicide, noting severe mental health issues including two recent suicide attempts and prior involuntary detention.
- Both media organisations are opposing the injunction application, which is set to be decided at a High Court trial scheduled for late October.
- Mr Justice Nicklin emphasised the importance of keeping the court proceedings as open as possible, acknowledging that the case will prove controversial regardless of the final decision.
