The ECB are reportedly investigating historic claims a 'high-profile' England cricketer used a racial slur towards a former county teammate multiple times.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the player is alleged to have called his teammate a "P***" in several incidents spanning 2014-2016. The claims have been reported to the ECB and the report states their investigation 'started in the last three weeks and they are contacting witnesses'.
The player is alleged to have been 'reprimanded by a well-known senior player' after using the slur during a game of football in training. An ECB spokesman said: "We do not comment on who is or isn't the subject of ECB investigations in situations such as this."
These latest allegations come after Azeem Rafiq spoke out about the racist abuse he suffered during his time at Yorkshire, with an investigation finding that he was a victim of "racial harassment and bullying".
The ECB have since charged a number of individuals over their involvement in the scandal and a Cricket Discipline Commission hearing is set to begin later this month. An investigation into allegations of racism at Essex remains ongoing, with three former players reporting they had been victims of racist abuse during their time at Chelmsford.
Jahid Ahmed described Essex as "a white man's world where brown people were outsiders", while Maurice Chambers told the Cricketer that a fellow player had called him a "f***ing monkey" during his time at the club.
Zoheb Sharif, meanwhile, told the Mirror that he had been nicknamed Bomber by his teammates and was also called "curry muncher". Sharif said: "I didn't say anything at the time. I was a teenager in a dressing room with big characters.
"To them it was banter. To me it wasn't, but you don't want to do anything to block your chance of getting into the first team."
Essex were also fined £50,000 by the ECB in May after pleading guilty to two charges relating to an alleged racist comment made at a board meeting in 2017 by former chair John Faragher, who denies the incident occurred.
