High court injunction to stop protesters blocking access to South Gloucestershire fuel depot

A high court injunction is in place to prohibit the restriction of access to a fuel storage depot in South Gloucestershire. A notice on a fence near Blaise High School on Hallen Road says anyone who 'enters or remains upon' entrances to Hallen Petroleum Storage Depot without permission is breaking the law.

The injunction means anyone who blocks access to routes in and out of the depot could face prison, a fine, or have their assets seized. According to the notice it's logistics company Exolum, believed to store fuel at the site, which applied fo the injunction.

It comes as activists from Just Stop Oil have been blocking fuel distribution terminals across the country. Protesters have taken action at 11 different fuel terminals in England since the start of the month, blockading and trespassing on sites to stop tankers entering, filling up or leaving to deliver fuel.

The high court injunction is in place until April 29 - during which more protests are planned across the country. Protesters have vowed to continue taking action until the government agrees on a ban on all new fossil fuel projects.

The Hallen depot had been used to store aviation fuel during the war. Most of the depot is believed to still be in use, supplying fuel to airports, the MOD and RAF stations. It is part a huge fuel storage complex extending into the hills around the village of Hallen.

The notice reads: "On 8 April 2022 an injunction was made by the High Court of Justice prohibiting the activity listed below. Anyone in breach of the injunction will be in contempt of court and may be imprisoned, fined or have their assets seized."

It continues: "With immediate effect until 16:00 on 29 April 2022, unless varied, discharged or extended by further order, the Defendants and each of them are forbidden from entering or remaining upon any part of the following Terminals without the Claimants' permission. 2.1.5. the Terminal informally known as the 'Hallen Terminal' situated at Hallen Road, Hallen, Bristol."

The order also prohibits the damaging of terminals, and the 'slowing down' of vehicles entering the terminals. The same injunction covers other Exolum depots in Stockport, Middlesborough and Doncaster.
