Hidden detail in Rafael Nadal photo melts tennis fans' hearts after Australian Open win

Rafael Nadal stared in disbelief at his box after completing a sensational comeback to win his 21st Grand Slam title.

He put his hand to mouth in shock before sinking to his knees and raising his hands in the air after conquering the Australian Open for the second him in his glittering career.

The Rod Laver crowd rose in unison as they celebrated the tennis legend’s epic victory.

However, they weren't the only ones filled with joy, as an adorable photo shows one of the ball kids sporting a huge smile after the Spaniard defeated Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in a mammoth five hours and 24 minutes.

Following the trophy presentation, the same ball kid stood next to Nadal as they posed for photos with the other ball boys and girls.

They beamed with pride as they shared some words with the icon and posed for some pictures that they will no doubt cherish for the rest of their lives.

The ball kid's heart-warming reaction to Nadal making history is arguably motivated by the fact the Spaniard's opponent Medvedev appeared to get a little irritated early on in the match when the balls weren’t in the places he was hoping they would be during his service games.

Medvedev also endured a relatively difficult night with the Aussie crowd, most of whom were firmly on the side of Nadal.

The Russian endured a rocky relationship with the audience throughout the fortnight at Melbourne Park, and even branded some spectators as having a 'low IQ' after growing frustrated with the trend of Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'Siu' celebration.

Medvedev was so upset by his lack of support in some matches, that he claimed he would be willing to miss some Grand Slams in the future.

"When I was 12, I trained, played in some Russian tournaments, of course, watched Grand Slam tournaments on TV … you dream of being there," he said.

"From now on, I play for myself, for my family, to provide [for] my family, for people who trust me, of course, for all Russians, because I feel a lot of support there.

"I will say this: if there is a hard tournament in Moscow before Roland Garros or Wimbledon, I will go there even if I miss Wimbledon or Roland Garros or something else.

"The kid stopped dreaming. It will be harder to keep playing tennis when things are like this."

Nadal had some kind words to say about his opponent and believes with time the crowd will begin to understand the 25-year-old’s personality.

"I mean it from the heart, face-to-face and in the locker room he is a very friendly, approachable and not at all arrogant person,” he told Spanish media outlet AS.

"Someone with whom you can talk quietly. I really like him and I see him as good people.

"I wish him the best and I am sure that he will live beautiful moments with his audience."

After his historic win, Nadal surpassed his rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to become the first man in the history of the game to win 21 Grand Slam crowns.
