Hibs starting team news vs Celtic as Lee Johnson aims for Parkhead upset against champions

Lee Johnson has named the Hibs team he hopes can cause an upset at Parkhead against Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou's league leaders go into this one off the back of a Champions League defeat at home against RB Leipzig. The 2-0 win for the Bundesliga side under the lights in Glasgow's east end ended the Hoops' hopes of reaching the last 16 with a record of just one draw and three defeats from their four group stage games. Slim chances of the Europa League are still to play for but they will be putting that to one side to try and get back to winning ways and extend their domestic lead to five points ahead of Rangers game at Motherwell at Fir Park.

But Hibs will be doing all they can to make sure that doesn't happen and they make the trip off the back of four wins from the last five games. A narrow defeat last time out at Dundee United brought an end to an extended winning run for the Easter Road side, who are sitting as best of the rest ahead of kick-off.

Speaking ahead of the game, Johnson said: “It’s a really big challenge. It’s not just the team you’re playing; it’s the stadium, it’s the ball boys – because they’re fantastic – and the tempo that Celtic create.

“We have to match the tempo, switch on to the opposition’s tempo, and then play our way.

“I know Parkhead is a difficult place to go, but we’re really excited to go and test ourselves.

“Can we create the same metrics in possession and out of possession that we had in our recent sequence of wins? If we do, then we give ourselves every chance of winning the game.”

HIBS XI: Marshall, Cadden, Porteous, Hanlon, Stevenson, Keeneh, Newell, Campbell, Boyle, McKirdy, Kuharevich

Subs: Schofield, Cabraja, Magennis, Jair, Henderson, Mitchell, Youan, Fish, Rocky
