Hibs star's Celtic clash injury has club fearing his season could be over

Hibs and Scotland striker Kevin Nisbet is set to find out today if his knee injury in Sunday's clash with Celtic will rule him out for the rest of the season.

The Cambuslang star suffered a nasty injury to his left knee in a challenge with Celtic defender Carl Starfelt during the 0-0 draw at Easter Road and Hibees gaffer admitted post-match that it didn't look good for the 24-year-old, who left the stadium on crutches.

Hibs fear the injury is to his cruciate and that would be a huge blow for the striker, his club and Scotland boss Steve Clarke, ahead of the World Cup play-off semi-final with Ukraine later this month.

Nisbet has been a regular in the national squads in recent months following his debut against Faroe Islands almost a year ago, and he has since gone on to win 10 caps, scoring once in a friendly against the Netherlands.

If his worst fears are realised, he could be looking at as long as nine months on the sidelines. News on the extent of the injury is expected later today as Hibs prepare to face Dundee in the Premiership on Wednesday night.
