Hibs recall Johnson to resolve goalkeeper injury crisis over Marshall & Wollacott

Hibs have recalled keeper Murray Johnson from Queen of the South.

Lee Johnson was scrambling for cover in goal after injuries to David Marshall and Jojo Wollacott.

Max Boruc stepped in for his debut off the bench in the Europa Conference League qualifier win over Inter D'Escaldes.

However, with the other two stoppers having injuries assessed, Hibs moved quickly to recall Johnson as he goes into the squad for the league match against St Mirren on Sunday.

Johnson returns to Hibs on an initial seven day emergency basis with the parent club having to extend the deal on a week-by-week basis.

A Hibs statement read: "The Club can confirm we have recalled Murray Johnson from Queen of the South.

"Following injuries to both David Marshall and Jojo Wollacott on Thursday evening, the Hibees have recalled 18-year-old Murray Johnson from cinch League One side Queen of the South.

"Murray joined Queen of the South on a season-long loan this summer and has featured once for Marvin Bartley’s side – keeping a clean sheet against Elgin City in the League Cup.

"Johnson will now return to the Hibees, initially as emergency goalkeeper cover for seven days, however, the Club can extend this on a rolling week-by-week basis if necessary.

"Murray Johnson will go straight into the Hibees squad for our opening league match with St Mirren on Sunday at Easter Road."

As a result, Queen of the South used a similar method to recall goalkeeper Charlie Cowie from his loan at Gretna 2008.

The League One club confirmed it also assisted Gretna to find a new keeper after the short notice decision to recall Cowie.

A statement read: "The club can confirm that, as a result of injuries to both David Marshall and Jojo Wollacot at their UEFA Conference League match against Inter Club D'Escaldes of Andorra, Hibernian FC have recalled Murray Johnson on an Emergency basis until the injuries have been properly assessed.

"This is for an initial 7 day period but we hope to have further clarity of the position by next week. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Murray and Hibernian the best of luck in their matches domestically and in Europe next week.

"As a result, we have ourselves recalled Charlie Cowie from his loan at Gretna 2008 for a further 7 days initially to join the squad ahead of tomorrow's League One fixture with Alloa Athletic. Charlie was also recalled last week when Murray Johnson was ill but had returned to Gretna when Murray returned to training on Monday. We would like to thank Gretna for their understanding and have assisted them in finding another goalkeeper for this weekend."
