Sassuolo are tracking Hibs defender Josh Doig, along with Aberdeen's Calvin Ramsay.
The Serie A side sent scouts to Pittodrie on Saturday to run the rule over the pair.
Sassuolo are understood to have done their homework on the pair before Saturday’s encounter, which saw Ramsay put through his own net after 20 minutes to give the visitors the lead.
But the Dons came roaring back through two Ferguson penalties and Vicente Besuijen’s late strike to claim the points.
Since Aaron Hickey’s switch to Bologna from Hearts, the Scottish Premiership has become a popular market for Italian sides trying to add young talent to their squads.
A move to team Ramsay up with Hickey failed last summer as Aberdeen rejected more than one bid from Il Rossoblu.
Doig meanwhile, has attracted interest from the English Premier League previously with Watford reportedly having a bid rejected.
His contract at Easter Road runs until 2025 so it would take a big fee to prise him away from Leith.
