It was Capital disaster as Kilmarnock left Edinburgh with their tails between their legs.
It was a bitterly disappointing afternoon from an Ayrshire perspective as Killie aimed to build on their win at Tannadice last week.
But goals from Will Fish and Matthew Hoppe ensured that wasn't to be, and Kyle Vassell's red card piled on the misery.
The only saving grace for Killie was that Ross County and Dundee United also lost their games.
The home fans were fuming when John Beaton waved away claims for a penalty as they felt a shot struck Joe Wright's hand in the 10th minute, and VAR backed up the whistler.
And a minute later Chris Stokes almost turned an effort in at the near post from a corner, but David Marshall was fast to react and saved well.
The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute as Fish rifled a header home unmarked from an Aiden McGeady corner.
Elie Youan looked sure to double Hibs' lead in the 27th minute as he smashed a shot at goal, but Sam Walker was equal to it and saved well.
The Killie stopper had to be alert again just before the half hour mark as Ewan Henderson shot from the edge of the area, but Walker got a strong hand to it again.
Youan was involved again in a big chance as he danced round the Killie defence before laying the ball off to Henderson who saw his shot blocked off the line by Wright.
Chris Cadden picked up the ball inside the area in the 41st minute and he forced Walker into yet another crucial save.
Killie boss Derek McInnes made a triple change at half-time as Chris Stokes, Blair Alston and Jordan Jones made way for Ash Taylor, Liam Polworth and Scott Robinson.
But less than two minutes into the half it went from bad to worse for Killie as poor defending allowed Hibs sub Hoppe to tap home from three yards.
And Hoppe almost doubled his money just before the hour mark as he cut inside and shot low, but to Walker's relief it ended up just wide.
And things went from worse to even worse as Vassell was sent off after a VAR check which deemed him to have committed serious foul play after an alleged high boot offence.
Rory McKenzie had a late chance to pull one back but his effort was blocked off the line.
