Hezbollah claimed responsibility for targeting a naval base on Israel's northern Mediterranean coast that houses an elite Israeli naval commando unit. The Shayetet 13 unit, operating out of the Atlit naval base, is known for carrying out strategic sabotage activities across enemy lines, including damaging vital structures during wartime and the enemy's seaports, as stated by the Israeli military.

Earlier on Tuesday, sirens were heard in the area of Atlit, south of Haifa, with no reported injuries, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF did not confirm whether the naval base was the specific target of the attack.

Israel and Hezbollah engaged in a series of exchanges since Monday.

Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in a series of exchanges since Monday, following Israeli strikes in Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of over 500 individuals, including women and children. The Israeli military has stated that its operations are aimed at targeting the Iran-backed militant group.

Additionally, the IDF conducted extensive strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on the same day. Hezbollah had previously launched multiple rocket barrages into northern Israel, claiming to have hit the Ramat David Airbase, Megiddo Airfield, and the Amos base near the town of Afula in northern Israel.
