The Israeli military reported that on Thursday, forty rockets were launched at northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, resulting in at least ten fires that emergency teams are currently working to extinguish.
These rockets were fired from northern Lebanon, with the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claiming responsibility for the attack. Hezbollah stated that they targeted six Israeli military barracks using Katyusha and Falaq rockets, as well as utilizing three drones to strike bases. While Hezbollah claimed to have successfully hit the bases with the drones, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they could not confirm the strikes on military installations but acknowledged intercepting numerous launches and some rockets impacting the area.
As a result of the rocket attacks, two individuals are currently receiving treatment for mild injuries caused by shrapnel, as reported by Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service. This recent barrage of rockets follows a similar incident on Wednesday when over 200 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel, according to the IDF. Hezbollah also claimed responsibility for some of the rocket launches on Wednesday, citing retaliation for an IDF airstrike in southern Lebanon that resulted in the death of Talib Sami Abdullah, also known as Abu Talib, and three other fighters.
The IDF identified Talib Sami Abdullah as one of Hezbollah's senior commanders in southern Lebanon, attributing to him multiple attacks against Israeli civilians over the years. The airstrike that led to his death was carried out by the IDF on Tuesday, as confirmed by the military. The escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have raised concerns about further violence and instability in the region.
