Hezbollah has declared the successful conclusion of the first phase of its strikes against Israel, focusing on targeting Israeli military sites to prevent interception of a second barrage aimed at a specific undisclosed target within Israel. The militant group reported launching 320 rockets towards Israel and listed several locations it claims to have successfully targeted on Sunday.
The strikes by Hezbollah were in response to the killing of top military commander Fu’ad Shukr and others last month. The Israeli military has reported approximately 215 rockets launched from Lebanon but could not confirm the exact locations hit.
Israel had announced on July 30 the killing of Fu’ad Shukr in a drone strike in Beirut's southern suburbs, a stronghold of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. This action was said to be retaliation for an attack in Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, which Israel attributed to Hezbollah. However, Hezbollah denied involvement in the incident.
