Heung-min Son reflects on Harry Kane partnership as Tottenham duo combine for 50th time

Heung-min Son believes he and Harry Kane will continue combining for Tottenham after the pair delivered once again for Antonio Conte’s side.

After Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead in north London, Kane played the ball through to Son and the South Korean curled a finish into the bottom corner to equalise, the 50th time the duo have assisted each other across all competitions.

Kane got on the scoresheet himself from the penalty spot before Son hammered in a sensational volley, as Tottenham beat the Bundesliga side 3-2 and moved to the top of their Champions League group.

It was a win built on the star quality up front and a partnership that Frankfurt could do nothing to stop.

“We just understand [each other] really well,” Son told BT Sport.

“I know what H likes to do, and probably H is the same. It’s a good relationship, there’s no secret.

“It’s always hard work and a good effort, and I think this has always paid off. Hopefully many more [goals to come].”

Frankfurt were reduced to ten men on the hour mark after Tuta was shown a second yellow card for dragging Son back, seemingly setting the stage for a second-half breeze for the hosts.

That did not materialise though, as Faride Alidou halved the deficit with three minutes remaining and Kane added to the chaotic finale by blazing a penalty over the bar. Hugo Lloris was forced into a late save as Spurs just about held on.

Son had been taken off by that point and he admitted the closing stages were not an enjoyable match.

“The result gives us all a boost,” Son said.

“I think it’s really important we keep the positive things and there is always going to be something we can improve.

He added: “The last five minutes were really, really tough moments.

“In the Champions League we never know what’s going to happen, especially 3-2 in the last five minutes. It’s always tough so it was uncomfortable sitting on the bench and watching team-mates suffering.

“The most important thing is that we got three points.”
