Heung-min Son credits Tottenham team-mates for Golden Boot win: ‘They told me I deserved it’

Tottenham star Heung-min Son has thanked his team-mates for their support and belief after winning the Premier League Golden Boot for the first time.

Heading into the final day of the season trailing Liverpool's Mohamed Salah by one goal, Son had to wait until the second half before scoring twice in a 5-0 rout of Norwich City.

Over at Anfield, Salah came off the bench to make it 23 goals for the season and match Son's tally so the pair share the prize. Son becoming the first Asian player to be achieve the feat.

"Before I scored, I missed a big chance as well, a one-v-one situation, but I still believed it, to be honest," he told Tottenham's in-house media.

"Everyone was pushing me. If I was on my own, I couldn’t make it, but everyone next to me was pushing me.

"Lucas [Moura] when he came on, Stevie [Bergwijn], Eric [Dier], H[arry Kane], Ben [Davies], every player next to me said, ‘Sonny, you’re going to do this, believe it, you’ll get another chance’, and then I scored, then when I score the second goal, it was incredible.

"I missed the easiest chances and scored the toughest! I’m really grateful for the team. They helped me a lot, especially all season, but [on Sunday], at 3-0, everyone was like, ‘come on Sonny, you deserve this’. I really appreciated that.

"It feels amazing. When I saw it for the first time, I was quite emotional. When I was a kid, I dreamt of this. It’s incredible to have this award, literally, in my hands."

Son's two goals helped Spurs confirm top four ahead of Arsenal, the club finishing above their rivals for six seasons on the trot.
