The popular heritage train rides that are a favourite with families visiting a North Tyneside museum are open again for bookings, with prices starting at just £1 for children.
The next rides at Stephenson Steam Railway at Middle Engine Lane in North Shields are this Saturday, August 21 and they include a four-mile return trip in a 1950s passenger carriage pulled by a vintage locomotive. These will be followed by a special event, a Coal Train Day, on Sunday, August 22, running from 9am until 5pm when families will be able to see demonstration coal trains alongside the museum's regular passenger service.
The treats are part of the summer programme of event at the visitor attraction which also include Make & Take Thursday activities. After this weekend, the next heritage train rides will take place there on August 25, 28 and 29 and a charge of just £1 applies for children throughout the rest of this month.

Further train rides then will follow on September 1, 4, 11, 18 and 25. More special deals will be coming up that month as the museum also will be taking part in the annual Heritage Open Days. It will be offering free workshop tours on September 10, explaining all about maintaining vintage engines and trains, and this will be followed by free train rides during the Heritage Open Days event which always brings with it an opportunity to explore a wide range of historic buildings and venues throughout the region.
