Here’s why Taylor Swift’s impact on ‘Swag Surfin’ is hard to ignore

Back in 2009, rap group Fast Life Yungstaz released the song “Swag Surfin’.” It’s been a staple of HBCUs since it first dropped and only grew in popularity over the years as it became a regular at sporting events across the U.S.

F.L.Y. members Vee, iMcFli and Mook joined Ryan Cameron on his radio show in Atlanta on February 21, speaking about the Taylor Swift Effect. “She’s a big help. I’ll say that much,” Mook said into the mic. “She got our streams up like 700% right now on Spotify, Apple Music.”

He goes on to say the group’s YouTube account grew by over 20 thousand new followers.

“Shout out to Tay-Tay,” F.L.Y. said. The Taylor Swift Effect is real.
