PEDESTRIAN.TV has teamed up with Baskin-Robbins to help you find your ideal sweet comfort treat.
Growing up is understanding your mum’s “don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee” mug and learning you’ll never own a house.
That’s where ‘little treat‘ culture comes in. A lot of us have it rough right now. We can’t afford those big life goal purchases, so we resort to little treats to reward us for knocking out big tasks — as is our right. These can be your morning coffee, an aloe vera face mask, or a Baskin-Robbins brookie because, hey, it’s neat to try new things.
In case you’ve missed it, “treat culture” has dominated social media for the better part of the year, and it’s only growing. Social media is flooded with posts about sweet treats that are often silly, promoting them as a minor reward for completing a task, knocking out an assignment, or even just something small like getting out of bed that day.
This isn’t exactly a new thing, either. Young adults have always spent on small goods here and there. What Gen Z has picked up on with ‘treat culture’ is essentially a rebranding of essential self-care. Yes, that’s right — your $12 milkshake is self-care.
While it’s understandable to feel anxious making any purchase nowadays, the idea behind the little treat is that it’s just that. A simple small purchase throughout the week. It’s not something to be confused with full-blown retail therapy.
In fact, Fortune pointed out in an article that partaking in a sweet treat is a way of asserting agency over one’s finances and life. These little indulgences aren’t keeping us from reaching those financial goals, so picking up a bag of chips at the end of work isn’t the end of the world. In fact, it’s something that helps us feel alive.
So, you should absolutely treat yourself however you like. You can grab a few lipsticks to try out or make Friday the day you go wild and change up your coffee order. You could also treat yourself to a gooey caramel-fudge brookie pie from Baskin-Robbins and feel time stop for two minutes as you lock in to eat the dessert.
Not sure what a brookie is? Let me share the knowledge. A brookie is essentially a cookie merged with a brownie. It keeps the crunch but adds a nice different flavour and texture to the much-loved dessert. Baskin-Robbins takes it to the next level by offering it as a Brookie ice-cream sandwich, a Brookie pie filled with molten caramel or a loaded Brookie.
If your sweet treat demands you mix two desserts in holy matrimony, then that is your right, and you deserve it.
What’s important is that you make your little treat something that’s just right for you and helps make those hectic days worth getting through.
So go on, let the voices win this time and treat yourself. They’re right when they say you deserve it.
