As it stands, Scotland are among the best Euro 2024 third teams, meaning if they manage to finish in the top four they'll qualify to the competition's round of 16.
The route for progression in Euro 2024 allows some teams who have finished third place in the group stages to qualify, but not all.
Teams who finish first and second will progress to the last-16 no matter what, however four teams can still continue in the tournament by finishing third.
As outlined by Scotland's Coefficient on X (formerly Twitter), as it stands Scotland currently sit third out of those four, alongside Slovenia, Albania and Poland.
✅ We're back in the fight after that point last night 🇪🇸 "As it stands" - we'd be one of the 4 best third placed teams and would play Spain in Cologne on Sunday 30th June in the last 16 ❓ Obviously, still a lot of football to be played. As noted there, there is of course a lot of football still to be played in the competition and Scotland's game plan from here remains the same – to win on Sunday in their final match against Hungary.
Again as outlined above, should Scotland secure a place in the best of the rest rankings, they could play Spain in Cologne on June 30 in the Euro 2024 last 16 knockout round.
Of course, it's still not mathematically impossible for Scotland to finish the group in second place - but it would require a six-goal swing, as well as Switzerland to accrue a handful of cards in their final match against Germany given their disciplinary record is so far better than Steve Clarke's side.
