Here’s what Chiefs’ Travis Kelce can accomplish on National Tight Ends Day

On Sunday, Oct. 23, NFL fans celebrate the obscure holiday known as National Tight Ends Day. It just so happens to fall on a football Sunday too, which means that Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce will have a chance to break some records on the holiday celebrating his position group.

If Kelce records at least nine receptions and 45 receiving yards on Sunday, he will have totaled at least 50 receptions and 500 receiving yards for the ninth consecutive season. He’ll pass former NFL TE Antonio Gates to have the third-most such seasons in NFL history. Only former NFL TEs Jason Witten (15) and Tony Gonzalez (16) have more.

Should Kelce score a touchdown against the 49ers on Sunday, it’ll be his seventh consecutive road game with a touchdown dating back to Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season. He’ll pass former NFL TEs Vernon Davis and Rich Caster (6) to tie Marcus Pollard (7) for the most consecutive road games with a touchdown by a tight end in NFL history.

Last, but not least. If Kelce records 100 receiving yards against the 49ers on Sunday, he will tie former NFL TE Rob Gronkowski for the most career 100-yard receiving games in NFL history by a tight end with 32 career 100-yard receiving games.

It seems like every week with Kelce, there is a new record to break. He already set franchise records for the most consecutive games with a reception and the most career 100-yard receiving games. He’s moved up the leaderboards to record the fifth-most career receiving yards by a tight end. Knowing that the 49ers haven’t done a particularly great job covering tight ends this season, it’s certainly possible that we see Kelce achieve all three of these records on National Tight Ends Day.
