The winner of this week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, is going to walk away $4.5 million richer.
That’s the largest first-place prize in PGA Tour history and the $25 million purse is also the largest. Those numbers are up from $3.6 million and $20 million in 2022.
In what has been one of the highest-paying events in professional golf, it’s taking another big step this week.
A fifth-place finish at TPC Sawgrass will net players more than $1 million. The player who finishes 10th? How about $681,250, which is more than Nico Echavarria earned after winning the Puerto Rico Open last week in the opposite-field event.
