So, firstly let me start this by saying clearly I don’t have a medical degree but I had a little thought wandering around Bramham Park for Leeds Festival 2022 - could you earn a guilt-free pint?
As I was working on site there tends to be a lot of walking involved as you try to catch the acts across the stages and you pop over to see what’s happening in the campsites. So, with this in mind, and given we know festivals can be boozy, I thought to try convincing myself I’d perhaps have a healthy (ish) weekend.
Clearly, it was my choice to consume alcohol or not and we should all drink responsibly (but, I’ll level, I did have a beer or two) and it felt intriguing to see if you could, at the very least, earn yourself some guilt-free pints. I hope my working out is right here, with my B in maths GCSE, but the NHS states there’s 240 calories in a five per cent pint of beer.

I’ve taken that figure, which is the equivalent to one Mars Bar, and calculated it against the amount of calories burnt off from walking - on average people burn 40 calories per 1,000 steps.
If this doesn’t sound right to you please go easy on me in the comments as I'm working off minimal festival sleep. But, that sounds correct, right? Well, anyways, below is how many guilt-free pints I roughly earned myself at Leeds Festival 2022..providing that logic is correct:
- Friday - Steps - 20,988 - Beers earned - Roughly three-and-a-half pints
- Saturday - 17,620 - Beers earned - Roughly two-and-a-half pints
- Sunday - 27,251 - Beers earned - Roughly four-and-a-half pints
- Total - 65,859 - Beers earned - 10-and-a-half guilt-free pints
I’d argue 60-odd thousand steps is decent going but I can’t really workout if 10-and-a-half pints is an appropriate reward. Maybe, I’m just saying this as I know just how many I consumed...although I couldn't possibly provide a number.
I would also stress that I appreciate there’s many factors which could influence these results. Not least, our bodies are all different.
Anyways, if you are just back from Leeds Festival 2022 with a hangover and regretting your life choices you might, or possibly not, feel a little better about yourself. Tell us how many you think you earned by commenting on this article.
