Here’s How Long Each MLB Game Lasted on Opening Day With Pitch Clock

The pitch clock era is finally here—and it’s spectacular.

MLB introduced the concept of a pitch clock in spring training, and the effect was immediate. Game times were 26 minutes shorter on average compared to last year’s spring training, and fans eagerly awaited the results of the pitch clock on actual games.

If Opening Day is any indication, the new setup will have a substantial impact.

Games lasted an average of three hours and six minutes during the 2022 regular season. On Opening Day, the average length was three hours and 11 minutes across seven games. Here’s a running total of how long each game took on Thursday, when all 30 teams were in action.
