Glasgow residents will be thrilled to hear the long-anticipated film, Tetris, which was shot in Scotland’s largest city is now available to watch on Apple TV.
The new release stars Taron Egerton as Hank Rogers, the man who brought the well-known, video game from the USSR to the rest of the world. In 2021, during lockdown in the coronavirus pandemic, movie cameras and Hollywood stars were seen as Glasgow doubled up as a 1980’s Soviet Union with many scenes filmed in the city and the surrounding areas.
At Glasgow Live we sat down and counted the number of times you will see locations of the city and surrounding area in the brand-new film, Tetris.

The first location that you will see in the Hollywood production is just outside of Glasgow in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.
South Lanarkshire Council building was used for shooting at the start of the film and doubled as the Mirror Group newspaper headquarters.
When you watch the movie, you can distinctly see the memorable, round building at the side of the structure along with the tall looming building of the local government.
Throughout the movie, Morrison Street, which stretches along part of the quay side is a location seen in the movie. Morrison Street Apartment Buildings were transformed into KNCC headquarter, the Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
If you keep your eyes peeled whilst watching the movie you will be able to see, the red, hammer and sickle logos of communism that were placed on the building for filming. In real life, this building is also used as offices for numerous different companies.
As you go along Morrison Street another building right beside the Apartment Buildings is also used for the shooting of the movie.
This building in the film is supposed to be a structure just off the Kremlin in Moscow and plays a major role in a USSR style military parole that in the movie, Mikali Gorbachev, then current President of the country attends in person.
In the movie you will see actors, Taron Egerton and Nikita Efremov outside the building and discussing the differences between 1980’s USA and the USSR.
Another location in the city centre that is used for Tetris is Anderton where the abandoned Anderton Centre is situated. The structure was completed in 1973 and made a great shooting location to depict the former Soviet Union.
In the movie it is used for its actual intended use it was built for which was apartment buildings, alongside offices and some shops.
During the film, Nikita Efremov, the creator of the famous video game lives there and is visited many times by the KGB to keep him in line with the then current regime.
Last on the movie location list is a place where more west-coasters would visit if they were heading on holiday, Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
The airport, located on the west coast in Ayr, was used to depict Moscow’s airfield and, in the movie, beforehand played host to a car chase.
In total you will see Glasgow and the surrounding areas of the city, five times on camera. It is amazing how they only had to change Glasgow a little bit to depict 1980's Soviet Union.
