Henry Cejudo: Jon Jones doesn’t need Francis Ngannou to be greatest of all time

Henry Cejudo doesn’t think a Francis Ngannou fight would add too much to Jon Jones’ legacy.

A fight between UFC heavyweight champion Jones and former champion Ngannou was brewing until “The Predator” parted ways with the UFC and signed with the PFL.

With Jones already widely regarded by many as the greatest of all time, Cejudo sees a fight with the record holder for most UFC heavyweight title defenses, Stipe Miocic, doing more for his career.

“I don’t think Jon really cares,” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “I don’t think Jon needs a guy like Francis Ngannou to be able to say that he is the greatest of all time. The reality is, Jon doesn’t need any of those guys. But the guy that he probably does want to beat, he does want to beat the greatest heavyweight of all time. His name is Stipe Miocic.”

Ngannou is open to a cross-promotion fight with Jones, but with the UFC historically not keen on that, the chances are low. But even if a deal were to ever be reached, Cejudo expects Jones to have retired by then – something Jones recently alluded to himself if Ngannou doesn’t return to the octagon.

“I don’t believe they’ll ever fight,” Cejudo said. “I really don’t. I do believe that Jon wants to exit out. He’s got maybe one more fight and then you’ve got to pull him out of retirement once again because he wants to leave as king and he wants to leave up top.”

Jones and Miocic have been linked to a title fight in the UFC’s projected Madison Square Garden pay-per-view event in November, but an announcement has yet to be made.
