Henry Cejudo hits back at Sean O'Malley's "$37" claim with dig at rival's partner

Henry Cejudo has made a savage dig at Sean O'Malley's partner after his potential rival claimed he only has $37 in his bank account.

'Triple C' has not fought in the UFC since defeating Dominick Cruz in 2020, after which he announced his retirement having reigned as a two-weight world champion. Now, the American star is eyeing a comeback in the bantamweight division and has resumed training ahead of a potential return to the Octagon.

One option could be the bantamweight division's new leading contender, O'Malley, who recently defeated Petr Yan to make a huge leap up the rankings. Cejudo made a call-out to O'Malley on Twitter, which the latter quickly mocked during an interview on the MMA Hour. He said: “I heard from someone close to Henry that he’s got like $37 in the bank and he’s literally doing anything to try and book a fight and get some money.

"I don’t know Henry’s like opening main card, co-main event dude. Even if him and Aljamain Sterling go fight, it’ll be a co-main event on some card. I feel like every time we talk about this guy, it’s like is he actually coming back? Ya know? I don’t know, I don’t put much thought into that.”

In response to O'Malley, Cejudo hit back on Twitter, writing: "I had 38 dollars but I spent it on your girl. Now I only have 37 dollars." Cejudo has already stepped up his plans to return by enrolling back into the USADA drug testing pool, which fighters are required to be in for six months before competing.

There will likely be a whole host of fighters looking to challenge O'Malley since he picked up the No.1 ranked contender spot, which could even include a rematch with Yan, who felt he was unlucky in his previous defeat. 'Suga' may look to assert his shot straight at the title with the champion, Sterling, who recently retained his title in a defence against TJ Dillashaw on the same card.

The 28-year-old has instead proposed that he takes on Marlon Vera instead, who he feels is more deserving of a shot. He tweeted: "Id rather fight someone who deserves it like Chito." However, UFC president Dana White intensified speculation that it could indeed be the previously retired star who is next in line.

“That guy was just in the top of my head, he asked me that question, I said maybe Henry Cejudo would be fun," he said. He didn’t think so, but I don’t know, maybe other people do. You know, Henry’s been out there talking and he wants to come back and he wants to, you know, and I think, well how long has he been back in the USADA pool? Anyone know how long he’s been back in the USADA pool? Six months? Yeah, so you know, he could fight. So maybe you do him and Aljamain Sterling next.”
