Henderson, Woodman and Newcastle United's potential goalkeeping reshuffle ahead of deadline day

Eddie Howe could be set to oversee a reshuffle of Newcastle United's goalkeeping department on January deadline day.

The Magpies are well stocked between the posts, with Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie and Freddie Woodman all vying for the number one spot.

Woodman began the season in the starting XI following two impressive loan spells at Swansea City, with Darlow recovering from Covid-19 and Dubravka's long-term foot injury.

Darlow then enjoyed a stint in the side, before the Slovakian international was restored as the number one in the defeat at Arsenal in November.

Newcastle have kept just two clean sheets this season, winning on both occasions against Burnley and Leeds United, and the pursuit of a centre-back has dominated the headlines this month.

However, it would appear Howe is also keen to bring in his own number one with the Manchester Evening News reporting Dean Henderson has emerged as a late loan target.

The news comes at the same time as reports indicating Woodman will be allowed to leave on loan, with Championship outfit Bournemouth set to rekindle their interest from the summer.

The Athletic report Newcastle are keen to free up a spot in their 25-man Premier League squad, and the 24-year-old is keen to play regular first-team football.

A loan move for Henderson not only holds ramifications for a potential deal for team-mate Jesse Lingard, but also raises questions over the make-up of Newcastle's registered top-flight squad for the remainder of the season.

Former boss Steve Bruce took the unprecedented step of naming four goalkeepers in his Premier League squad, and the Magpies could still have four senior shot-stoppers on their books if deals for Henderson and Woodman are concluded.
