Helldivers movie gets a very promising update as the director teases why Jason Momoa was "the only person" to star

Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho.

The Helldivers movie has had a very positive update at CinemaCon.

While not much was shared about the upcoming video game adaptation, it was revealed that director Justin Lin recently met with the devs at Arrowhead in Sweden – and, in a few weeks' time, the film team will head to New Zealand to start work (via IGN).

"Helldivers balances satire with humanity... and the only person who I think can pull this off is Jason Momoa," Lin teased.

Momoa is set to star in the film, though nothing is known about his role just yet. The film was first announced in 2025, and it will be based on Helldivers 2, sequel to Helldivers. The game's story revolves around the titular soldiers under attack from alien creatures on a planet named Super Earth.

It's a big year for Momoa already, with the actor debuting as Lobo in Supergirl, and returning as Duncan Idaho in Dune 3.

"I'm super pumped. It felt just awesome [playing Lobo]," Momoa has said of his Supergirl role. "My first scene in [Supergirl] is like, 'I'm fucking born to do this.' There's a lot of great actors that can do stuff, but once I go on that press tour, [you'll see] 'My first shot was this. Could you do this?'"

Supergirl also stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, with a cameo from David Corenswet's Superman confirmed.

The Helldivers movie arrives on November 10, 2027. While you wait, check out our guide to all the most exciting upcoming movies coming soon.
