Helen Skelton has shared a touching message of support for Ukraine as she reminisced over her time in the country.
Recently interviewing Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko who are currently defending their country's streets for BBC's 5 Live Breakfast, she turned to social media to express her thoughts. Helen shared two photos, the first one being a black-whit throwback of herself and the second showing the two boxing stars.
She captioned the post: "Slide one … 2012 filming in Kyiv we played football and drank vodka in the streets. Slide two talking to Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko this morning as they defend those streets.
"Chat felt surreal on many levels. We also spoke to a woman who left her 19 year old son at the border to fight as she crossed to safety with her daughter. Here’s hoping they’re playing football in the streets again soon. Thinking of them. Thinking of us. Thinking of you."
Her post clearly resonated among fans as they responded to the star in their droves. @hucklequinn197 wrote: "I couldn’t even think about leaving my son, it’s heart-breaking. God bless the Ukrainians."
@never2oldfurniture continued: "Well said Helen. What a fabulous nation Ukraine is and the Ukrainian people should be proud of themselves.
@elain.corker.3 commented: "Absolutely heartbreaking I couldn't leave my son not knowing if I'd ever see him again. The Ukraine people are all so brave and I hope that they can get back to each other soon."
