Helen Flanagan says fans are stopping her in Tesco over I'm a Celebrity confusion

She looked a world away from running the gauntlet in the I'm a Celebrity jungle on the spin-off series set in South Africa as she attended the MEN Pride of Manchester 2023 awards, and Helen Flanagan shared her amusement on the red carpet as she revealed the confusion caused by the pre-recorded reality show show.

Helen, 32, looked dazzling in a shimmering gold mini dress with fringe detail by Manchester designer Nadine Merabi as she stepped out at the annual awards with a friend. She was among the stars recognising acts of bravery, long-lasting battles against the odds, or inspirational campaigning at Manchester's Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

Fans of I'm a Celebrity have been getting their fix of the jungle action earlier in the year with a host famous faces from over the past 20 years gathering in South Africa instead of Australia. Former Coronation Street star Helen is one of the all-star line-up taking part in the I'm A Celebrity ...Get Me Out Of Here! legends series.

Helen, from Bury, has been competing with other former campmates including Bolton boxer Amir Khan, TV presenter Carol Vorderman and fomer royal butler Paul Burrell in a bid to be crowned the first I’m A Celebrity Legend. Helen, 32, who first took part in the 12th series of I'm A Celebrity back in 2012, left viewers gobsmacked from her first challenge which saw the Rosie Webster actress leap across giant balls suspended in the air as part of the Newton's Cradle challenge to grab a star, seriously impressing with her pluck.

During her first rocky jungle stint, Helen was voted by the British public to take part in seven bushtucker trials in a row. This series Helen has been hailed a 'genius' as the campmates were split into two teams to compete to win a picnic. She came up with the idea, after being part of the winning team on day one of the picnic challenges, of telling their opponents that it wasn't the lavish spread they were expecting to put them off trying hard.

Mum-of-three Helen revealed at Pride of Manchester that, while she's on screen in South Africa in the pre-recorded show, fans are baffled to see her doing the shop in Tesco. "Everyone is like 'what are you doing? Why am I seeing you in Tesco?' and I say - 'We filmed it last year.'" She added: "They say 'you're suppoed to be in South Africa.'"

Unlike the usual versions of I'm A Celebrity the spin-off, with hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly back the helm, is pre-recorded. It was filmed in September last year. Helen left Corrie in 2018 to go on maternity leave. She shares three children with footballer Scott Sinclair - Matilda, seven, Delilah, four and two-year-old son Charlie.
