Heinz Field Will Be Renamed Acrisure Stadium, per Report

It’s the end of an era in Pittsburgh.

Faithful Steelers fans will have to adjust to a new moniker for their beloved Heinz Field as the iconic venue will be renamed Acrisure Stadium, per a team announcement

"We are excited to partner with Acrisure for the naming rights to our stadium," Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. "Acrisure provided us with an opportunity to ensure our stadium continues to be a valuable asset for our fans as well as keeping up with the market value of NFL stadiums. We are very appreciative to partner with Greg Williams and his company, and we look forward to a long, beneficial relationship for years to come."

The decision to rename the stadium comes after Heinz opted to not extend its naming rights contract with the Steelers, despite team owner Art Rooney saying he was “optimistic” that a deal would get done earlier this offseason.

Acrisure, a Michigan-based insurance brokerage firm, was expected to fill the void as Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan reported on Tuesday morning.

Heinz Field opened in 2001 and serves as the home venue for the Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh’s football team. Located in the North Shore neighborhood of the city, the stadium is right next to PNC Park, home of the Pirates.

It’s more than likely that Heinz Field will have to undergo some significant renovations to welcome in its new naming rights partner. Heinz expects to continue its relationship with the Steelers and plans to reveal new details about the partnership in the coming days.

“While we worked diligently with the Steelers for several months around a new naming rights deal, they found a new partner willing to pay significantly more than we could justify,” Heinz said in a statement. “While our name will no longer be on the stadium, Heinz will remain a significant, long-term sponsor of the Steelers and we’re excited to announce the details of our new partnership in the days ahead.
