Heavy rain to lash Leeds on Wednesday in extreme Met Office weather warning

A yellow weather warning is in place for Leeds and heavy rains overnight on Tuesday increased the risks of flooding in some areas on Wednesday, January 10.

There are a total of four flood alerts in Yorkshire near to Leeds. Flooding is possible at the Lower River Calder catchment, Tidal River Ouse from Naburn Lock to Selby, Tidal River Wharfe and Upper River Wharfe. The risk is still relatively low, however, people have been asked to be prepared.

Leeds will see clear early mornings, with a hint of early morning sunshine. But all that is forecast to change from around 10am when showers begin.

These showers will morph into heavy rains by 2pm. There are dark clouds and thunder expected which will all impact visibility.

Rain is expected into the night as well. A spokesperson for the MetOffice said: "Bright, but cold and windy, with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. Showers widespread in the west, at first spreading east, bearing a risk of hail and thunder. Drier later. Maximum temperature 8 °C."
